Our Program
St. Saviour’s Christian Preschool is a licensed preschool for a maximum of 25 children per session ranging in age from thirty months to six years. We offer a play based program that is Christ centered. It is our belief that children learn naturally through play. Our preschool includes a variety of open ended activities which create various learning opportunities. Some of our learning centres include:
- House keeping and dress up area
- Block corner
- Art table
- Sensory table
- Table toys and puzzles
- Listening centre
Circle Time
During this time, children will be introduced to new ideas, themes and biblical content through stories, songs, drama, and movement. In October, the older children will begin to learn phonics through music and movement.
Art
We have open ended art set up during free play and we also offer a more structured, theme based art activity during art time. The children explore God’s world through the manipulation and use of many different media and materials.
Snack Time
We ask that each child comes with a snack from home. Please be aware that there are children in the preschool with severe peanut allergies and ask that consideration be taken when packing your child’s snack. We encourage healthy eating and will be doing a unit on nutrition. Children will be reminded that chocolates, candies and soft drinks are treats for home.
Music
There are three structured music times per week, along with daily music and movement during circle time. Children will learn new songs, actions and be introduced to rhythm and tonality. The children will be working towards two concerts in which all family and friends are invited to attend. These annual concerts take place at the end of December and May.
Gradual Entry
Parents are welcome to stay with their child for as long as necessary. Once your child becomes familiar with the program and staff, they will feel more confident to remain on their own. It is very important for the parents to pick up their child on time so their confidence is increased. Gradual entry is not necessary for everyone, please notify the staff as to what is suitable for your family.
Staff
All staff are practicing Christians who faithfully attend various Christian denominations in the Lower Mainland. Our staff are certified Early Childhood Educators and have current Child Safe First Aid certification. Each staff member has undergone a Criminal Record check. Our staff is committed to ongoing professional development and attend workshops and training in the community as a team and individually. Any assistants, early childhood education students or volunteers will undergo a criminal record check before entering our program and will work along side a qualified staff member.
Clothing
Please send your child to school in comfortable play clothes with an extra set of clothing. We encourage children to wear smocks, but art time can be messy. Reassure your child that it is alright if they get their clothes dirty. All clothing should be labeled clearly with your child’s name so that it can be identified. Wet or soiled clothing will be bagged and kept with the child’s belongings for the family to take home and launder. Dress for success!
